SAVE THE DATE – NCFMC – 100 YEARS!

NCFMC will commemorate 100 years affiliation with NFMC in Raleigh,  May, 19-20, 2017 with a Gala Celebration.  The Holiday Inn Downtown Capitol will be hotel central where most events will take place.  Michael Edwards, President of NFMC will be our special National Guest. On Friday evening, May 19, following a banquet to honor 8 living Past Presidents, the group will attend a performance by the North Carolina Symphony in Meymandi Concert Hall at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.  There will be a concert by an NFMC Young Artist on Friday who will also present a Master Class with selected students.  In addition, 2 workshops for teachers are scheduled:  Composition Tips for Teachers of Junior Composers and Online Federation (Gold) Cup Registration Workshop.  Bring your laptops.  The workshops will occur on Friday and the Online Registration Workshop will run 2-3 hours.  A must for teachers who have Junior Clubs, since NFMC will mandate online registration in the near future.

June 3-4, 2016  STATE CONVENTION in historic New Bern, hosted by St. Cecilia/East Carolina Music Club.  Hear NFMC Young Artist, Nicholas Susi, pianist, in concert, as well as a motivational talk by Diane Higgins of Charlotte.  Barbara Hildebrand, national treasurer for NFMC, will give the convention address on how NCFMC may safely invest funds in order to maximize earnings. Also, learn what your Federation is doing and how the organization is improving music opportunities for all NC youth. Spend a week’s vacation at the North Carolina coast and take a couple of days for the convention and for visiting North Carolina’s Colonial Capitol Building, TRYON PALACE, as well as the historic drugstore that is the birthplace of Pepsi-Cola! Or take a relaxing tour boat ride around the New Bern harbor. Come join the fun, learn from others and meet club members from around the state.

July 22-23, 2016  BREVARD WEEKEND.  North Carolina is the host state this year. Take a mini-vacation in the serene mountains of NC and hear beautiful music in our world famous music camp, Brevard Music Center.  Michael Edwards, newly elected President of NFMC, will be our national guest.  There will be concerts and opera to enjoy, as well as socializing with members from our 13-state Southeast Region.  This summer marks the first time our new Southeast Region/Beth McAuley Scholarship in the amount of $2000 will be awarded.  Come meet the winner!

Madeline Bauer wins President’s Cup

MadelineBauerLenoir pianist Madeline Bauer was recently honored by the National Federation of Music Clubs as recipient of the President’s Cup Award for excellence in piano performance. The 90-point trophy is awarded to outstanding musicians who have earned at least as many points in the annual Festival Spring Auditions. Miss Bauer earned a total of 93 points during her 14 years in the Festival, with a perfect record of Superior ratings in the piano solo/piano concerto events. Miss Bauer is the first student in North Carolina to earn this very prestigious award. She has been a student of Hickory pianist and teacher Robert Setzer, whose students number a long list of state, regional and national winners in competition events.

Madeline, age 19, is the daughter of Dr. Brian and Cynthia Bauer of Lenoir, and is a May graduate of the Caldwell Early College High School. She was a state winner in the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs scholarship awards auditions in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2013. Aside from her classical skills, Madeline has also served as keyboardist for the youth and adult praise team of the Flemings Chapel Baptist Church in Lenoir. Madeline has recently finished her freshman year at Furman University.

Junior Festival Day

Rick Setzer has just announced that Junior Festival Day will be Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Western Avenue Baptist Church in Statesville, NC.  Details will follow soon.  This program will include Scholarship and Royalty winners from throughout the state.  Please make plans to attend this outstanding concert of NC Junior musicians.

Student/Collegiate Auditions

The Student/Collegiate Auditions were held at UNCG, Sunday, February 15, 2015.  A first place award of $700 in woman’s voice was earned by mezzo-soprano, Allyson Goff, a student of Dr. Clara O’Brien at UNCG.  Ms. Goff is eligible to compete for national awards of a minimum of $3000.  A second place award of $300 in piano was presented to Julia Van Patter, student of Dr. Joseph DiPiazza of UNCG.  The auditions were coordinated by NCFMC President, Joel Adams, who is also Student/Collegiate Chairman.  Dr. Timothy Lindeman, Dr. Judith Howle and Ellen Linton were judges for the event.
